A chieftain of the Labour Party in Abia State, Chidi Moses Onuoha, has expressed disappointment over the poor performance of the party’s lawmakers at both federal and state levels.
According to Onuoha, many of these lawmakers were elected due to the popularity of Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, but have failed to deliver good governance to their constituents.
In an interview with the Daily Post, Onuoha stated that the party would not tolerate such complacency in the 2027 elections.
“Any lawmaker hoping to cash in on the popularity of Governor Alex Otti and Mr. Peter Obi will fail woefully in 2027,” he warned.
Onuoha praised Governor Alex Otti’s performance in Abia State but criticized the lawmakers for being relaxed.
Onuoha said, “You can’t use our structure to win an election and then abandon the people that voted for you or be hiding from us,” he emphasized.
He emphasized that the party would only support lawmakers who have performed well.
He stated, “We are going to apply the strategy of how to vote and how not to vote in 2027. Many of them hoping to use the good performance of Governor Alex Otti to win election would be disappointed as we will only work for those that performed, not failures.”
Onuoha further stressed, “Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti remain popular because of their performance, but the lawmakers should work convincingly to attract life-saving projects to their constituents if they hope to be re-elected.”
