The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has disclosed its strategy to weaken Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s chances of re-election in the 2027 governorship election.
This plan was revealed by the former Chairman of the Rivers State APC chapter, Tony Okocha.
According to Okocha, Fubara’s rise to power was facilitated by former Governor Nyesom Wike’s influence.
Okocha noted that Fubara was not a politician before his emergence as governor, according to Politics Nigeria.
The APC’s plan to demarket Fubara and his party is expected to capitalize on the ongoing feud between Wike and Fubara, both members of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Despite efforts by President Bola Tinubu and other stakeholders, the dispute has resisted resolution, leading to factional divisions within the party.
Okocha acknowledged Wike’s robust political structure in Rivers State, predicting its durability for the next decade. This structure, Okocha emphasized, will not be easily dismantled.
The APC’s strategy underscores the complexities of Rivers State politics and the party’s determination to gain an upper hand in the upcoming election. As the 2027 gubernatorial election approaches, the battle for political supremacy in Rivers State is expected to intensify.
The APC’s plan to demarket Fubara raises questions about the governor’s ability to withstand the opposition’s tactics.
“Wike made it possible for Fubara to emerge as governor. Fubara was never a politician,” Okocha stated.
He continued that Fubara is creating problems for himself, making it easier for the APC to demarket him and his party. “It is our business to demarket him and his party for us to win in 2027,” Okocha said.
Okocha said further that Wike has a strong political structure in Rivers State that cannot be destroyed soon. “For the next 10 years, I do not see any politician destroying the political structure Wike has in Rivers State,” Okocha declared.
