Youths under the aegis of The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders have expressed strong confidence that Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will emerge as a unifying candidate for the Lagos State governorship race in 2027.
During a press conference in Owerri, CONYL President General, Goodluck Ibem, affirmed that Seyi Tinubu possesses the leadership qualities necessary to garner support from all political parties, including the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party.
Ibem emphasized the historical support Lagosians have shown for President Tinubu and his political legacy, dismissing criticisms regarding Seyi Tinubu’s potential bid for governorship as unfounded, according to Politics Nigeria.
He pointed to President Tinubu’s track record of transformational governance and democratic principles as key factors in shaping Seyi Tinubu’s readiness for leadership.
He reminded the PDP that the people of Lagos State have consistently shown their admiration and support for President Tinubu, noting their votes for him and his party, the Alliance for Democracy, in the 1999 election. Ibem further emphasized that despite the PDP controlling the federal government at the time, they never won the Lagos governorship election, highlighting the people’s rejection of the party.
Ibem argued that the people of Lagos State do not tolerate imposition and instead value true democracy. He underscored that leadership in the state is sustained by transformational performance, a quality President Tinubu has demonstrated throughout his tenure.
Reacting to the comments of the Lagos State PDP chapter rubbishing the alleged governorship bid of Seyi Tinubu as ” a family affair”.
Ibem expressed confidence that PDP and other parties will vote for Seyi Tinubu if he declares.
“We want to remind the PDP that the people of Lagos State love and appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which informs why they voted for him and his party the Alliance For Democracy, AD, in 1999 in Lagos State.
“The people of Lagos State rejected the PDP and embraced President Bola Tinubu and what he stands for.
“The PDP have never won the governorship election of Lagos State even when the party was in control of the federal government which confirms that Lagos people don’t accept or tolerate any form of imposition from any quarters but rather believe in true democracy.
“True leadership are sustained via transformational performance and Tinubu has proved to Lagosians that he came into governance to serve the people and not to be served by Lagos State as claimed by the PDP Lagos State Chapter,” Ibem said.
