The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, is set to leave for Canada, on Monday, on the first high-level visit since 2000 when former President, Olusegun Obasanjo visited the North American nation.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity, Laolu Akande made this disclosure on Sunday in a statement.
According to him, the visit is expected to deepen diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Canada, as Prof. Osinbajo will meet the Canadian Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, and other top parliamentarians and members of the Canadian government in Ottawa, on Monday.
The 3-day visit is to hold issues and events that would bother on educational collaboration, technology, creative industry and climate justice among others, will also feature.
The VP is to be received at the Ontario-based Carleton University, which has significant engagements and collaborations with some institutions in Nigeria. He is also scheduled to give a public lecture at the Queen’s University in Kingston on Wednesday.
Nigeria is Canada’s largest trading partner in Africa and both countries also have a Bi-National Commission, the only one of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Akande, whose SSA role to the president is carried out from the office of the vice president also mentioned that, “the VP is expected back in Abuja later in the week.”
