The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has revealed how he intends to address the proscribed group, Indigenous People of Biafra agitation for secession.
Activities by the group in the south eastern party of the nation has continued to distabilize the peaceful atmosphere of the region as the region has been subjected to various attacks.
The incessant sit-at-home order by IPOB in the region has also continued to unsettle the economic activities and growth of the region.
While the current detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu by the federal government despite a court order backing the release of the embattled leader has continued to worsen the situation.
While addressing the international community at the Chatham House on Monday in the United Kingdom, Peter Obi stated that he is opened to dialogue with members of the group.
“On the IPOB issue and other agitators, this is a cumulative effect of bad leadership all over the years. I and Datti will discuss with all agitators, there’s nothing wrong in that”, he said.
This is not the first time the presidential candidate will be taking this position about the proscribed group.
It would be recalled that on the 3rd of November,2022, while responding to questions on insecurity in the country at the corporate headquarters of the Media Trust Group, owners of Daily Trust titles and Trust TV in Abuja, Obi, stated that he would adopt a different approach to ending the IPOB agitation.
While answering questions after his visit to Media Trust, Obi said, “I have said it times without number, Nigeria does not have more agitation than Brazil, if you want I will show you countries that have had agitations in the past, whether it is Brazil, Mexico, whether it is this.
“In our South East, it is a simple thing, I will dialogue, I will discuss, it is a democracy, and in a democracy, you govern by consensus. If anybody says he is not happy, you call him and you sit him down and discuss with him,” he said.
