Some senators, specifically those who were members of the ninth Assembly, have expressed the need for an apology from Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC Edo North), their fellow senator, in response to allegations of vandalism that have been raised against them.
During an appearance on the Politics Today programme on Channels Television, Oshiomhole made allegations regarding the actions of senators and House of Representatives members in the 9th National Assembly. He claimed that these individuals had taken away various items, including rugs, from their respective offices.
According to his statement, he and a majority of the federal legislators in the 10th National Assembly utilised personal funds to furnish and organise their respective offices.
Oshiomole said, “In spite of the presence of security men and women, television sets, carpets, and chairs were looted by the immediate past senators and House of Representatives members
“The former lawmakers left their offices in shambles with holes in the walls, which had to be fixed by serving lawmakers from their pockets.”
During the plenary session on Tuesday, Senator Adeola Solomon (APC Ogun West) put forth a motion requesting an apology from Oshiomhole.
The individual observed that the aforementioned statement served as a source of shame for the legislators, and further acknowledged the misuse of their authority.
Solomon said, “My privilege has been abused. A senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria went on National TV and told the whole world that the lawmakers of the ninth Assembly, which I was a part of, looted equipment from their offices.
“We all know that there is no way that a senator or their aides can take a pin out of the National Assembly without being accounted for.
“Each of the items was checked and legally passed and those amounts are deducted from severance packages.”
“I hereby demand that the senator should apologise to the House or be made to face the Ethics and Privilege Committee.”
Adeola received secondment and endorsement from Senator Adamu Aliero, representing the PDP Kebbi Central constituency.
The matter is presently being discussed and deliberated upon.
