Following the military coup against the re-elected president of Gabon, Ali Bongo, on Wednesday morning, some Gabonese have praised the coup plotters for their intervention.
Some residents were seen applauding members of the security forces in the Plein Ciel district of Libreville on Wednesday, hours after the coup.
The Gabonese military officers had appeared on national television announcing they were “putting an end to the current regime” and scrapping official election results that had handed a third term to veteran President Ali Bongo Ondimba, whose family had ruled the country for 56 years.
