Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South Senatorial District, has disclosed that the region will lobby the Federal Government for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, from detention.
This revelation comes amidst growing discussions regarding Kanu’s detention and its implications for the region.
During an appearance on Channels Television’s “Politics Today,” Senator Ubah was asked if there were prospects for Kanu’s release in the near future, to which he responded with a confident “Definitely.”
He explained, “I am of the firm belief that if we can consult – with the consultation we have had, the government will start looking in that direction.”
While acknowledging that the government cannot unilaterally take a position due to ongoing legal proceedings, he expressed optimism that a collective effort could lead to an appeal for Kanu’s release.
The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu has been identified as a contributing factor to the security challenges in the South-East region, and Senator Ubah underlined the need to address this issue.
He emphasized that the discussions with the government covered various topics, with a focus on infrastructure and regional stability.
Senator Ubah noted, “A lot of things are on the table; let us see how, where we will get to,” highlighting the importance of ongoing dialogues and efforts to improve security and stability in the South-East region.
