Former Kaduna lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, criticized the recent visit of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Nigeria, pointing out what he perceived as an overbearing display of colonial mentality during their reception.
Sani, known for his outspoken nature, expressed his admiration for the couple, citing their rebellious attitude, and welcomed their visit to Nigeria. However, he was critical of the manner in which the protocol of their visit was carried out, describing it as “utterly disgusting” due to what he saw as obsequiousness and a colonial mentality.
In a post on his social media handle on Saturday, Sani stated, “I like Harry and Meghan because of their rebellious attitude and I appreciate their visit to my country; but the obsequiousness and colonial mentality displayed by the protocol of their visit is utterly disgusting. I hope when the elder brother comes, our officials will not carry him on their shoulders.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in Nigeria for their 72-hour tour on Friday, marking their first visit to the country together. During their arrival, they were escorted into a waiting blacked-out minibus, while other travelers were held back.
