The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Honourable Babajimi Benson, has praised the Nigerian military for its notable successes in various operations across the country.
Benson emphasized that these achievements highlight the bravery, professionalism, and unwavering commitment of military personnel in safeguarding the nation.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Benson commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their remarkable achievements and steadfast dedication. He highlighted numerous victories against insurgents, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening Nigeria’s peace and security. These successes, he noted, are a testament to the resilience and sacrifice of the men and women in uniform who tirelessly work to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
Benson pointed out that troops under the Multinational Joint Task Force have inflicted significant blows on terrorist groups in the Lake Chad Region through daring operations. In one such operation on June 15, 2024, several terrorists were neutralized, and 34 women and children were rescued from insurgents.
“The recent successes of our Armed Forces in various operations across the country are highly commendable,” Benson stated. “These victories not only reflect the strategic prowess of our military leadership but also the dedication and bravery of our soldiers, airmen, and ratings. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their relentless efforts to protect our nation.”
In addition, Benson highlighted the intensified efforts of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, against the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, in Abia State’s Ihechiowa community of Arochukwu Local Government Area. “Our troops raided and cleared IPOB/ESN camps in the Umudi Forest and Umuaku areas of Umunneochi Local Government Area, thereby liberating the communities from the clutches of miscreants and terrorists,” he said.
Benson also mentioned the Nigerian Navy’s proactive efforts to protect national assets. On June 15, 2024, the Nigerian Navy Ship Soroh discovered and deactivated an illegal refining site in the Isonogbene area of Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. “This site contained unspecified quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined AGO. This operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s proactive efforts to protect national assets and ensure the sustainable management of Nigeria’s natural resources,” he said. Additionally, the Nigerian Air Force conducted impressive airstrikes on June 17, 2024, in Katsina State, eliminating over 80 terrorists.
“These strikes, along with previous ones in various parts of the northwest and northeast, have significantly disrupted terrorist activities and enhanced the safety of several communities for their residents,” Benson added.
Benson assured the Armed Forces of the House of Representatives’ unwavering support. He reiterated the legislative body’s readiness to provide all necessary resources and support to enhance the military’s operational capabilities, ensuring they are well-equipped to tackle any security challenges.
“The House of Representatives remains committed to supporting our Armed Forces in every possible way,” Benson affirmed. “We understand the importance of providing adequate resources and legislative backing to ensure the effectiveness of our military operations. Rest assured, we will continue to prioritize the welfare, training, and equipment needs of our troops to maintain their operational readiness and efficiency.”
Benson called on all Nigerians to continue supporting and appreciating the Armed Forces, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions to national security. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to ensure a safer and more secure Nigeria.
