A former aspirant for the Edo State House of Assembly in Etsako East Local Government Area, Engr. Ilugbekhai Inwomoh, has called on the people of Edo State to support the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in the upcoming September governorship election.
Ilugbekhai, who serves on The Advisory Council (New Media) for the PDP Campaign Council, believes that Dr. Ighodalo embodies the qualities of the legendary Nigerian leader Obafemi Awolowo and is well-positioned to lead the state towards further development.
In a recent statement, Ilugbekhai lauded Dr. Ighodalo as a modern-day equivalent of Awolowo, emphasizing that Ighodalo’s vision for public service mirrors the selfless leadership that Awolowo demonstrated during his time. He stated, “When Awolowo was alive, He lived and dreamt of people’s welfare and development. Western region was a pace setter under him. Just as Edo is currently a pace setter in Nigeria in terms of development, security and highest Salary for civil servants under Governor Godwin Obaseki in PDP administration when other opposition States and the federal government are still struggling to pay what Edo government is paying with ease.”
Ilugbekhai highlighted Awolowo’s significant achievements, such as introducing the first television service in Africa and establishing the first standard stadium in Nigeria. He praised Awolowo for pioneering free primary education and free healthcare for school-age children and for using his own property as collateral to secure a bank loan for farmers in Elere village to start a garri processing plant. These historic feats, according to Ilugbekhai, exemplify the type of visionary and effective governance that Dr. Ighodalo promises to bring to Edo State.
He further emphasized the need for a leader with substantial experience and knowledge to guide Edo State, stating, “The secret of Awolowo’s effective leadership was his exposure and knowledge. That is why we need an exposed candidate like Dr. Asue Ighodalo who is well educated and connected. A vote for PDP is a vote for a rebranded Edo State. If our dreams of becoming a Pace Setter to a new Nigeria then we need best hands for the job Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie are the two men that know the way.”
Ilugbekhai’s endorsement of Dr. Ighodalo reflects a broader strategy within the PDP to emphasize continuity in the positive developments achieved under the current administration and to build on the legacy of past leaders who made significant contributions to Nigeria’s progress.
