Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, has praised Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, for making the Nigeria Police Force more gender responsive.
She gave the commendation at the International Association of Women Police Africa Region Training Conference in Abuja.
Represented by Mrs. Rachael Umahi, the First Lady noted that the IGP’s efforts align with the United Nations Security Council resolutions and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She emphasized the importance of collaboration and inclusivity in addressing security challenges, saying it is crucial for development.
The IGP, in his remarks, appreciated the conference’s timeliness, highlighting the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to promoting gender equality, according to NewsDiary.
He acknowledged the vital role IAWP plays in empowering women officers through collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The conference aims to address Africa’s security challenges and safety through collaboration and inclusivity.
The first lady said that the theme of the IAWP conference, “Addressing Africa’s Security Challenges and Safety Through Collaboration and inclusivity” was apt.
Mrs Tinubu, who said the theme of the conference was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government, added that security was the bedrock of development.
According to her, it is imperative to tackle the multifaceted challenges of insecurity by fostering collaboration and inclusiveness.
“In aligning with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, this conference emboldened our national commitment to revitalise and strengthen our institutions to better serve the people.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda emphasises inclusivity, transparency and accountability which are crucial to addressing security challenges effectively.
“Through this agenda, Nigeria is working to build a society where law enforcement agencies operate with the highest standard of professionalism and integrity,” she said.
