The Peoples Democratic Party has established a 26-member disciplinary committee, chaired by Chief Tom Ikimi, to restore party discipline.
National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, announced this in Abuja on Friday.
The committee aims to address the crisis within the party since the 2023 Presidential primary, which former Vice President Atiku Abubakar won. The primary led to a rift, with Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and four other PDP governors openly campaigning against Atiku and the party.
The Ikimi-led committee includes Eyitayo Jegede, SAN as secretary, and other notable members such as Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Chief Olabode George, and Sen. Effiong Bob.
According to Ologunagba, the committee will be inaugurated alongside the National Reconciliation Committee, headed by Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, on August 21, 2024. He stated:
“Following the approval of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee has constituted the National Reconciliation Committee and the National Disciplinary Committee of our great Party.
“The Committees will be inaugurated on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at the National Executive Committee Hall, National Secretariat, Abuja at 12 noon prompt.
“The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of the PDP to remain focused and committed to the vision, principles and aspiration of our great Party in the overall interest of the growth, development and stability of the PDP and the nation.”
