President Bola Tinubu has introduced sweeping cost-cutting measures aimed at reducing government expenditure.
In a directive issued on Thursday, the president limited the number of vehicles in official convoys for ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies to three.
This was made known by the Special Adviser to the President (Information & Strategy), Bayo Onanuga, in a release.
This move follows Tinubu’s earlier efforts to streamline government spending.
Recall that in January, he reduced his entourage on foreign trips from 50 to 20 officials and to 25 for local trips.
The vice president’s entourage was also reduced to five officials on foreign trips and 15 for local trips.
The latest directive further restricts security personnel attached to officials.
Ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies are now limited to five security personnel: four police officers and one Department of State Services officer.
President Tinubu has also instructed the National Security Adviser to review vehicle and security personnel deployment across military, paramilitary, and security agencies, with the goal of achieving suitable reductions.
The president emphasized the urgency and seriousness of these changes, mandating immediate compliance from all affected officials.
These austerity measures demonstrate Tinubu’s commitment to reducing government spending and promoting fiscal responsibility.
