The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has expressed full support for the Court of Appeal’s ruling affirming Ude Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.
The Forum has called on the National Working Committee to implement the ruling without delay.
This resolution was part of a seven-point communiqué issued following the Forum’s first meeting of 2025, held on Friday, at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State.
The governors reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining party discipline and adhering to legal processes while striving for internal stability.
The communiqué noted that the Forum was pleased with ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis within the NWC regarding the National Secretary’s position. It reiterated support for the Court of Appeal’s judgment and urged the NWC to take the necessary steps to implement the ruling.
Additionally, the governors called for the rescheduling of the PDP’s National Executive Committee meeting to March 13, 2025, in order to fulfill legal requirements for a valid convocation.
Beyond party matters, the Forum voiced concerns over the Federal Government’s economic policies, which they said have caused significant hardship for Nigerians. They urged the government to urgently review these policies to alleviate the suffering of the populace.
The communiqué criticized the macroeconomic policies of the Federal Government, stating that they have caused hardship and pain across the country. The governors emphasized that meaningful development at the state level cannot be achieved unless the policies are addressed.
On security, the Forum commended the efforts of the Armed Forces and security agencies but expressed concerns about the resurgence of non-state actors. They called for a more robust national security framework to address these challenges.
The Forum also acknowledged the developmental achievements of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, particularly in infrastructure, environmental remediation, people’s empowerment, and security.
The PDP governors reassured Nigerians of the party’s dedication to restoring the country to a period of economic stability, security, and national unity, as seen prior to 2015. The meeting was chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed, who is also the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
“The Forum noted with delight the ongoing efforts at resolving the crisis in the National Working Committee on the position of the National Secretary and has reaffirmed its support for the Court of Appeal judgment; consequently, the Forum advised the NWC to set up the machinery for the effective implementation of the court judgment,” the communiqué read.
“The macroeconomic policies of the Federal Government have inflicted hardship and pain on the polity.
“The Forum calls on the Federal Government to either revisit or rejig these policies to stop the hardship, as no meaningful development in the states can be achieved until the harsh policies are addressed,” the governors stated.
