A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to terminate the appointments of three Resident Electoral Commissioners over alleged misconduct during the 2023 general elections, calling it a crucial move towards electoral reform.
Oyintiloye described the Senate’s approval of the president’s request to remove the suspended RECs from Abia, Adamawa, and Sokoto states as a clear indication of Tinubu’s commitment to cleansing the country’s electoral system.
Speaking to reporters in Osogbo on Sunday, the former lawmaker also lauded the Senate for supporting the president’s efforts to sack the suspended RECs, highlighting the importance of this action in ensuring the integrity of future elections.
The APC chieftain noted that the removal of the RECs sends a strong message that corruption and bribery will not be tolerated in Nigeria’s electoral process.
Oyintiloye also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission for suspending disciplinary action against the RECs in March 2023, specifically citing Yunusa-Ari’s suspension for unlawfully assuming the Returning Officer’s role in the Adamawa governorship election and making an unauthorized declaration of results.
However, Oyintiloye urged President Tinubu to maintain his anti-corruption efforts, stressing that the fight against corruption is beginning to yield positive results.
