Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has been invited to visit Brazil by his counterpart, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The invitation was extended on Wednesday, March 12, as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two nations.
The invitation was delivered to Tinubu by Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Mauro Viera during a meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar. Viera explained that the visit would be an opportunity to deepen the relationship between Brazil and Nigeria.
Viera, who led the Brazilian delegation to Nigeria, noted that the visit would pave the way for high-level talks between officials of both countries. He also highlighted the potential signing of agreements aimed at strengthening their bilateral ties. Viera commended President Tinubu for his active participation and contributions at the G-20 summit in Brazil last November, which he said had laid the groundwork for further cooperation in areas such as culture, economics, and education.
“We value a lot the contributions of Nigeria to the G-20, and we hope that President Tinubu will be able to come back to Brazil in the near future,” Viera said. “I take also this opportunity to express the desire of President Lula to receive President Tinubu in Brazil shortly. We consider this moment of consultations between our two ministries very important. It’s a follow-up to the previous engagements we had.”
In his response, Minister Tuggar emphasized the strong ties already shared between Nigeria and Brazil, noting the similarities in size, economies, population, and culture. He expressed support for further efforts to strengthen the existing partnership. “This visit is a natural progression of our partnership,” Tuggar added.
