President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges without religious bias, assuring Nigerians that his administration remains focused on fairness and inclusivity.
Speaking on Friday while receiving members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that insecurity affects both Christians and Muslims, making it imperative to adopt a neutral and all-encompassing approach.
“This insecurity, everyone is affected, Christians, Muslims alike. I have no religious bias; I won’t be a bigot. My wife is a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church,” he stated in a release by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
The President underscored the need for national unity, stressing that Nigeria must move beyond religious divisions to achieve sustainable development.
“This country must develop and must stand beyond religious bigotry. I’m open to you and ready to listen. We have an open-door policy. I will not shut my door,” he assured.
Amid the prevailing economic difficulties, Tinubu reiterated his administration’s determination to improve living conditions, pointing out that some of the government’s tough economic decisions, such as the removal of fuel subsidies, were necessary to safeguard the nation’s financial stability.
“Yes, removing the fuel subsidy was hard, tough for me, but it’s a hard choice that Nigeria must face. We are not going to bankrupt our country,” he explained.
He expressed optimism about the country’s economic prospects, citing increased investment in the petroleum sector, improved agricultural yields, and a decline in commodity prices as indicators of progress.
“There is hope; people are coming in to invest. They are saying good things about Nigeria. What seemed to be a difficult beginning is now showing us hope,” he stated.
The President acknowledged the persistent security concerns facing Nigerians and assured them that security agencies are working tirelessly to address the situation.
Tinubu also expressed gratitude to the bishops for their prayers and continuous support, reaffirming his commitment to leading a government that listens to the people and prioritizes their welfare.
