The Accord Party has called on the government to prioritize pro-people policies to alleviate the economic hardship currently facing the country.
In a statement issued on Sunday to celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr festival with Muslims, Maxwell Mgbudem, the national chairman of Accord, emphasized the importance of patriotism and prayers in building a prosperous nation.
“The leadership and members of Accord celebrate with the Muslim faithful on the joyous occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebration,” the statement read.
“We rejoice with them for their immense sacrifice, devotion to Allah, charity to fellow compatriots, love, and tolerance during the Ramadan fast, and urge them to sustain the virtues beyond the holy month,” Mgbudem added.
The statement also stressed the need for prayers, unity, and patriotism among citizens to strengthen the nation. “The need for prayers, unity, and patriotism amongst citizens cannot be over-emphasised in the quest for a strong, stable, prosperous, and egalitarian democratic nation,” the statement noted.
Accord Party called for national unity, urging Nigerians to prioritize the national interest over personal, political, and sectional interests. “To achieve this, Nigerians should be in one accord as national interest overrides personal, political, and sectional interests,” it said.
Mgbudem also highlighted the need for good governance and progressive leadership. “The masses yearn for good governance and progressive leadership that will redirect the ship of the state to the path of rectitude, development, and advancement,” he stated.
The Accord Party urged leaders at all levels of government to implement pro-people programs and projects that will ease the country’s economic difficulties. “Leaders at all levels of government are therefore urged to sit up and implement pro-people programmes and projects that will alleviate the hardship in the country. The populace deserves a fair deal from the government and not excuses,” Mgbudem added.
