The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has issued a stern warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to take immediate action to unite Nigeria or risk the possibility of a revolution.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele expressed grave concerns over the deepening disunity in the country, which he believes is affecting nearly every sector, from politics to religion and tribal relations.
The clergyman emphasized that the government has a crucial responsibility to address the root causes of division and maintain national unity. He pointed out that Nigeria’s peace is under threat due to widespread disunity, urging President Tinubu to tackle the political, religious, and tribal tensions that are driving the nation apart.
“Something needs to be done about Nigeria. Many may not tell the president about this, but Nigeria isn’t united in terms of geopolitical zones, religion, tribalism, and politics. We are very disturbed in this country, tribes dislike themselves, and this threatens the unity of this country,” Primate Ayodele said.
He also noted that the only thing that has historically united Nigerians is football, but even the national team’s underperformance has contributed to a growing sense of division. “Nigeria needs to be very prayerful, the government needs to watch on the causes of these things, the ethnic crisis is very imminent if the government doesn’t take it seriously. Religion cannot even bring us together because issues still arise from there. I think the only thing that brings us together is football, but even our Super Eagles are not doing well,” he added.
Primate Ayodele went on to propose that the government consider “collapsing the system” and conducting a referendum to reset the country’s unity. He argued that even if the Igbos were to attain power, disunity would still prevail if the underlying issues were not addressed. “The government will need to collapse the system and re-arrange. They will need to do a kind of referendum to reset the whole thing. Even if Igbos get to power tomorrow, there will still be issues, our unity is seriously threatened,” he explained.
The prophet also attributed the ongoing violence and social unrest in the country to this pervasive disunity, describing it as a “disease” that appears to be incurable. He warned that if left unchecked, the situation could lead to a revolution. “This is why people are being killed daily, why votes will always be one-sided, why some people who rise to get to a certain level in life will find it difficult to agree on one thing, it’s a disease that seems to be incurable,” Primate Ayodele remarked.
He concluded his statement by urging the government to approach the issue from a spiritual perspective, warning that continued division is detrimental to the country’s economy, moral fabric, and overall stability. “We need to look at this spiritually because this can cause revolution; it’s affecting our economy, the country spiritually and morally. There is no love in this country; even those working with Tinubu don’t love him,” he said.
