The Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. George Chima, was abducted from his residence in Okigwe, Imo State.
According to sources who spoke to Vanguard, the abduction was carried out by four gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. The assailants stormed the ABSIEC chairman’s residence while he was hosting some lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu, and seized him.
The gunmen reportedly attempted to take Prof. Chima away in his car, which his driver was washing at the time. However, the car failed to start despite the gunmen’s efforts to drive it.
An eyewitness recounted that the gunmen later seized a passing vehicle carrying logs of wood and fled with the ABSIEC chairman in that vehicle.
