Abia State has made history with the appointment of Benson Ojeikere, a native of Edo State, as its first non-indigenous Head of Service.
This landmark decision marks a significant moment in the state’s civil service history.
Ojeikere’s journey to this prestigious position began when he joined the Abia State Civil Service after being automatically employed by the state government in recognition of his outstanding performance as the best youth corps member during the 1999/2000 National Youth Service Corps year.
Prior to his appointment as Head of Service, Ojeikere held the position of Permanent Secretary in the Government House, Umuahia. His exemplary service and dedication saw him rise through the ranks over the years.
Prince Okey Kanu, the state’s Information Commissioner, praised the appointment, calling it a historic move. He emphasized that Governor Otti is committed to breaking barriers and promoting excellence, irrespective of origin. Kanu further stated that Ojeikere’s swearing-in marks the beginning of a new era for Abia State’s governance, focusing on competence and dedication over regional divides.
“Governor Otti believes in breaking barriers and fostering excellence, regardless of origin,” Kanu stated.
