The Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State has unveiled plans to establish a Shadow House of Assembly aimed at fostering accountability in governance.
The announcement was made by the party’s Chairman, Abraham Amah, during a stakeholders’ meeting at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia on Tuesday, according to Daily Post.
During the meeting, Amah appointed Solomon Akpulonu, the PDP representative for Obingwa East State constituency, as the Speaker of the newly formed Shadow House of Assembly.
The party leadership also revealed plans to send a formal letter to the Abia State House of Assembly within the next 48 hours, informing them of the establishment of the Shadow Assembly and requesting their compliance.
The PDP Chairman also addressed concerns surrounding the state’s security, emphatically stating that neither the PDP nor the opposition was responsible for the current insecurity in the region.
Additionally, the PDP announced the creation of a reconciliation committee co-chaired by Amah and Peter Aguomba.
The committee’s mandate is to reconcile aggrieved party members and to potentially bring back those who had left the party for other political factions following the 2023 elections. Amah emphasized that the party is reorganizing itself with the goal of reclaiming political power in Abia State by 2027.
“We are taking all these steps to return this political party to government by 2027,” Amah concluded, while praising party members for their continued support and urging them to maintain unity.
“In line with democratic principles, we do hope that as soon the House of Assembly receives our letter, they will comply accordingly immediately.
” We are taking all these steps to return this political party to Government by 2027,” said Amah.
