Eight months after the Court of Appeal declared Uzodike Aaron the authentic winner of the Aba North state constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly, Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa has sworn him in as a member of the House.
The inauguration increases the PDP’s membership to 12, LP’s to 11, and APC’s to 1.
The Court of Appeal had nullified Destiny Nwagwu’s election on November 27, 2023, declaring Uzodike the authentic winner of the March 18 state Assembly poll.
Uzodike’s swearing-in was delayed due to a court order, according to the Speaker. However, the PDP insisted there was no court order and accused Governor Alex Otti of instructing the Speaker not to swear in Uzodike.
The PDP has congratulated Uzodike on his inauguration, describing it as a “significant milestone in democracy’s journey to perfection.” Elder Amah Abraham, acting state publicity secretary, commended the Speaker for “waking up from slumber and demonstrating obedience and adherence to the rule of law.”
The party urged the Speaker to release Uzodike’s entitlements for the past 15 months, stating that prompt payment will enable him to execute his duties and fulfill promises made to the people of Aba North state constituency.
