The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, will on Monday, December 18, 2023, give a verdict on the appeal filed before it, by the Adamawa State Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Aishatu Ahmed Binani.
The Appeal Court which had earlier heard the case between Binani and Governor Amadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party, but reserved judgment on the suit, will on Monday deliver the awaited judgment on Monday.
Binani who is challenging the victory of Fintiri in the last governorship election in the state, had approached the Court, shortly after the Adamawa State Governorship Electoral Petitions Tribunal in October 2023, dismissed the petition filed by the APC candidate.
In her prayer, the APC candidate asked the court to quash the declaration of Governor Fintiri as the Adamawa Governor, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, INEC, Fintiri, and PDP were named as the first, second, and third respondents respectively, while asking the tribunal to annul the election over non-compliance with the Nigerian Electoral Act.
The tribunal had, however, dismissed Binani’s petition and affirmed Fintiri’s victory.
However, the APC candidate filed an appeal at the appellate court, seeking to set aside the judgement of the tribunal, which affirmed Fintiri’s election.
