The Adamawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Justice Hapsat Abdulrahaman as the Chief Judge of the state.
The confirmation of the first female Chief Justice and two others came after the assembly considered a letter submitted to it by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and read aloud by the legislature’s Speaker, Aminu Iya Abbas, during Tuesday’s meeting.
The Governor had requested that the Assembly confirm the three candidates recommended by the National Judicial Council.
After presenting the letter, Deputy Speaker Pwamwakeno Mackondo moved for the requested confirmation of the nominees.
During deliberation, the members representing Numan, Verre, Guyuk, and Demsa State commended Governor Fintiri for submitting the names of the highest-ranking judicial officers for confirmation.
The Speaker, who presided over the meeting, then instructed the Clerk of the House to forward the Assembly’s resolution to the governor for further action.
Ibrahim Wakili Sudi, who serves as Grand Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal, and Audu James Balami, who serves as President of the Customary Court of Appeal, are the two more judges who have been confirmed.
Recall that Hapsat Abdulrahaman was sworn in as the State’s interim Chief Judge by Governor Fintiri in September of last year.
