The embattled former National Chairman and former National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore, respectively, on Tuesday spotted inside the presidential villa, Abuja, where they met with President Bola Tinubu behind closed doors.
According to Daily Post, what the meeting was all about could not be officially confirmed, but it is believed that it must have been part of efforts to sort out issues surrounding the party’s leadership.
Premium Politics reports that Adamu and Omisore resigned their positions as National Chairman and Secretary of the APC early last week, ahead of the scheduled National Caucus and National Executive Council meetings of the party, which were to be held on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July 2023 respectively.
At the centre of the resignation drama, It was alleged that Senator Adamu was compelled to resign his position, while Senator Omisore’s resignation came after what seems to be a show of shame, following his barred from entering the party’s national secretariat, during the meeting of the National Working Committee of the party.
Premium Politics also reported that when rumours of their resignation emerged, the former Chairman, Adamu, said he was not going to make any comments on the development until President Tinubu, who was away in Nairobi, Kenya, returned to the country.
Meanwhile, Neither Adamu nor Omisore has openly announced their said resignation since the news broke out, but Acting National Chairman, Abubakar Kyari, who was Deputy National Chairman (North), while speaking to journalists after a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee in Abuja, said both leaders have resigned.
“The NWC wishes to inform you of the resignation of the National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and that of the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore and with this development, and according to the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), it is now incumbent on my humble self, Senator Abubakar Kyari, as a Deputy National Chairman, North, to assume the office of the acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“And subsequently, also, the Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuantar, will now assume the office of the acting National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“And with this recent development in the change of leadership, I will like to inform everybody here that the proposed National Caucus meeting slated for Tuesday, the 18th of July 2023, and the National Executive Committee meetings of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for Wednesday, 19th of July 2023 are hereby been postponed. And this postponement will not be indefinite but a new date will be communicated shortly,” Kyari stated.
