After 18 years of construction, the Nigerian Government has announced a new deadline for the completion of the East-West Road.
Minister of Niger Delta, Abubakar Momoh, made this known on Tuesday during an interview that the project will be finished within the next 12 months.
Specifically, Momoh stated that the section of the road spanning from Eleme Petrochemical to Ahoada and Bayelsa will be completed within the next year, according to Daily Post.
He assured that significant progress will be visible in this area by then.
The East-West Road, which aims to connect the Niger Delta region, was initially launched in 2006.
However, despite the passage of time, the project has faced significant delays, with little progress made until now. The government’s new deadline aims to bring this long-awaited project to fruition.
“In the next year, by the time you visit particularly the Eleme Petrochemical area and the Ahoada to Bayelsa state, you will see that Road has been made through,” he said.
