The Akwa Ibom State Government has declared Friday, November 29, a work-free day to honour the late First Lady, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno.
This public holiday is intended to allow residents of the state to participate in the funeral proceedings and pay their final respects during the obsequies in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.
Recall that the late First Lady passed away on September 26 at the age of 57 after a brief illness.
She was widely known for her humanitarian work, especially through her initiative, the Golden Initiative For All, which sought to address various social challenges.
The announcement of the work-free day was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, who explained that the decision was made in consultation with the bereaved family.
This gesture is aimed at enabling Akwa Ibom residents and others to honour the late First Lady during her final rites.
In a statement, Prince Uwah said, “Further to the final home-going programme of our departed First Lady, Her Excellency, Pastor (Mrs) Patience Umo Eno, the Akwa Ibom State Government in consultation with the bereaved family has declared Friday, 29th November 2024 Work-Free Day in honour of our dear mother.”
He added, “This is to enable Akwaibomites and other residents to pay their last respects to our mother at her obsequies in Ikot Ekpene Udo, Nsit Ubium Local Government Area on that day.”
