The People’s Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State has launched its campaign for the Local Government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
The ceremony, held at the Uyo Township Stadium, witnessed the presentation of party flags to the 31 chairmanship candidates.
Governor Umo Eno congratulated the candidates on their emergence as flag-bearers and charged them to, “Engage in issue-based campaigns, devoid of bitterness, violence, and mudslinging.”
He assured them that his administration’s achievements would pave the way for their campaigns. Eno emphasized, “The importance of accountability, transparency, and rural development… key into my vision for the state.”
He also assured them of his administration’s continued collaboration with the third tier of government.
State PDP Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan, lauded the governor’s performance and commended him for, “Giving the party a solid foundation to campaign.”
He expressed confidence in the party’s readiness for the October 5 polls and reiterated, “PDP remains the people’s choice.”
Other speakers, including the deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, and political leaders of Ikot Ekpene, Uyo, and Eket Senatorial districts, praised the governor’s leadership style and the party’s inclusive approach.
The 31 chairmanship candidates, responding through the chairmanship candidate of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, appreciated the governor and PDP for the opportunity to fly the party’s flag, promising to, “Stay on issues throughout the campaigns.”
