Senate President Godswill Akpabio has made a bold vow to “embarrass” the people of Akwa Ibom state with numerous projects, appointments, and empowerment initiatives, aiming to dispel the notion that his party, the All Progressives Congress lacks a presence in the state.
Speaking at the Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, where the APC flagged off its campaign for the October 5 Local Government elections, Akpabio proudly declared, “I promised I was going to take you to the centre. Are you not now at the centre? This is just the beginning. We will complete it.”
He emphasized that APC’s presence in Akwa Ibom cannot be dismissed, assuring the crowd, “Nobody can dismiss APC in Akwa Ibom. I assure you that you haven’t seen anything yet. I will embarrass you with projects. I will embarrass you with appointments and empowerment.”
Akpabio’s vision for empowerment focuses on addressing the basic needs of the people, stating, “The problem we have today is nothing but empowerment. You have to eat.”
To achieve this, he launched the Godswill Obot Akpabio Back To Farm Initiative, starting with 600 bags of fertilizer per local government in the 31 LGAs, accompanied by bags of rice. The initiative is coordinated by his wife. Akpabio boasted of numerous ongoing projects, including:
– 61 ongoing projects
– 14 ICT Centers under construction
– 8 Police Stations being built
– 30 schools currently under construction
– Modern market projects in every LGA within his Senatorial District
– 7 town halls to be commissioned before December
– 14 primary health centres
– 1 Intensive Care Hospital
– 42 new roads under construction
– 25 transformers to provide electricity to villages
Akpabio also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing Akwa Ibom sons and daughters to various positions and announced a N50,000 monthly stipend for 1,000 beneficiaries across the 31 LGAs, complementing the state government’s food distribution efforts.
Regarding the upcoming local elections, Akpabio echoed Ita Enang’s sentiments, stating, “For the local elections, I believe that Governor Umo Eno is a democrat and that where any candidate of APC wins, he will respect it… We will win this election.”
