The Apex Igbo Social-Cultural Group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has described the anti-Wike protest at the National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday, as the handiwork of governor and presidential candidate, who are sponsoring protests against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to score some cheap political goals.
Ohanaeze in a statement signed by its factional Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said the protests are aimed at distracting Wike and President Bola Tinubu from performing their duties.
Isiguzoro however demanded the opposition political parties to allow Wike to focus on his duties and not politicking.
No fewer than thousands of FCT indigenes had stormed the National Assembly Complex, demanding Wike’s resignation over alleged land racketeering.
Speaking on behalf of the indigenous during the protest, Adamu Kabir Matazu, called on the National Assembly to probe Wike’s policies on land allocations.
Reacting to the development, the Ohanaeze leader said
“The opposition political parties should allow Nyesom Wike to focus on his duties and not politicking.
“The popoliticallyponsored protests in Abuja on Wednesday 6th December 2023 were mobilized by an opposition Governor and Presidential candidate to score cheap political goals and distract Wike, who is one of the pillars of Tinubu’s administration.”
Izegusoro further noted that despite Ikwerre being Igbo, the Ndigbo would protect their own and asked Tinubu to ignore the antics of opposition parties to distract his administration.
