The ruling All Progressives Congress has hailed the judiciary over Thursday’s judgement and Friday’s judgement on the November 18 governorship elections in Zamfara and Kano States respectively.
The APC made this commendation while reacting to the two judgments via its official X-handle on Friday, November 17, 2023.
According to the ruling party, the two judgements underscore the vibrancy and independence of the judiciary and also rekindle confidence that courts remain the bastion of hope for justice in any democracy.
The party however advised the judiciary to rise above any form of blackmailing or intimidation from any individual or group, while discharging its duty.
The court of appeal sitting in Abuja on Thursday, declared the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Zamfara State inconclusive, and also ordered for rerun in three local government areas in the state.
Similarly, on Friday, November 17, 2023, the court of appeal in Abuja upheld the judgement of the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that sacked Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party, as the governor of the state and declared Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, as the winner of the March 18, Governorship Election in the State.
Reacting to the development, APC said: “As we applaud the judiciary for its courage and professionalism in discharging its important constitutional duties, we urge it to continue to rise above blackmail and intimidation by some self-serving political interests and continue to give full expression to the tenets of the law, irrespective of the identity or status of parties involved.”
