The ruling All Progressive Congress on Saturday postponed its Senatorial Primary election for Abia Central until Sunday, May 29.

Chairman of Abia Central Senatorial Election Committee, Mr Izuxhukwu Okeke, made this known to delegates of the six local government areas that made up the senatorial district.

Okeke was reported to have said that he was not happy with what was happening at the primary, hence the postponement.

“Therefore, I and my team have decided to step down this primary, to be conducted tomorrow morning (Sunday),” Daily Post quoted the chairman as saying.

Meanwhile, The News Agency of Nigeria, reported that the postponement might be due to alleged discrepancies in the delegate’s lists.

Senator Nkechi Nwogu, one of the contestants, had earlier pulled out of the race.

In a statement released to newsmen, the eight-term holder of the office, Nwogu, said he was disappointed at what he called the ‘protracted division’ in the party-state chapter.

The letter partly read, “The undemocratic process in choosing delegates for the primaries, brewed confusion that led to the party having two gubernatorial candidates from two different governorship primaries.

“While chief Ikechi Emenike emerged through an indirect primary election, the former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah emerged through a direct primary.

“Following the anomalies in the party I have withdrawn my participation in the Senatorial primary election. I will still remain an active member of our party APC and ready to serve the party in any capacity”.
