The National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress North-west, Salihu Lukman has called for an immediate resignation of the Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and the national secretary, Iyiola Omisoore.
Lukman, who made this call in a statement released on Friday February 10, 2023, said an emergency national convention needs to be conveyed by the party.
Following the emergence of Tinubu as President-elect, Lukman expressed the importance of the new National Chairman of the party to be a Christian.
He stated that the National Chairman could be retained in North-Central.
According to him, Adamu has done an excellent job to see the party was victorious in the 2023 election, despite the challenges within and outside the party.
However, he added that it would be difficult to convince Adamu to resign as National Chairman, to allow a Christian takeover the office.
He said, “For that to happen, it may require an Emergency National Convention because if the hierarchy of the current leadership is to be followed, the successor to Sen. Adamu will be Sen. Abubakar Kyari who is a Muslim from the North-East.”
He stated that, apart from asking Adamu to step aside, there is a need to recognise the case of the National Secretary of the party, noting that he has become a source of serious dispute in Osun politics.
He described Omisore as a dividing factor in Osun State, rather than serving as a unifying factor in the party.
He claimed that, the issue might have seen the party defeated in the 2022 governorship election to a political mediocre whose only qualification in politics may appear to be a comic dancing skill.
He said, to save Osun State and bring it back to its old standard of national political reckoning, Omisore would need to resign as National Secretary of the party, and have a new unifying National Secretary elected.
Lukman emphasized that Omisore and any other member of the National Working Committee of APC, who is not a unifying leader in his/her state should be changed, with immediate effect.
