The All Progressives Grand Alliance has strongly criticized former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for claiming that the ruling All Progressives Congress is bribing opposition parties with ₦50 million.
In a statement, APGA demanded that Atiku provide concrete evidence to back up his allegations, which they have labeled “baseless” and “unfounded.” Atiku made the controversial claim during a recent national conference in Abuja, warning that Nigeria’s democracy could be at risk if such practices continue.
Reacting to the statement, APGA’s Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, accused Atiku of spreading harmful rumors that only serve to destabilize the political atmosphere. Opara emphasized that Atiku’s assertion lacked any verifiable proof and was nothing more than an unfounded accusation.
The APGA statement condemned Atiku’s claim, urging him to substantiate his allegations. The party demanded that Atiku provide names of the opposition parties involved and any evidence to prove the bribery claims. They challenged Atiku to either back up his statement or retract it, stating that anything less would be seen as political grandstanding.
APGA reiterated its commitment to the country’s democratic process and urged Atiku to act responsibly, warning that failure to provide evidence would lead Nigerians to dismiss his remarks as mere political rhetoric.
In a statement, APGA condemned Atiku’s assertion, stating that it is “without any proof or substance.”
The statement said, “APGA is compelled to respond to the baseless allegation made by former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, claiming that the ruling APC is buying over opposition parties with N50 million.
“We condemn this assertion in the strongest terms, as it is without any proof or substance. It is unfortunate that Atiku has resorted to spreading unfounded rumours, which only serve to heat up the polity and undermine the country’s democratic process.
“If indeed Atiku’s interest is to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy, we urge him to provide specific details of the opposition parties that have collected the said N50 million. It’s time for him to put up or shut up!”
“We, therefore, challenge Atiku to mention names, provide evidence, and substantiate his claims. Anything short of this is mere political grandstanding, which will not be taken seriously by Nigerians.”
