A renowned political activist, Usman Okai Austin, has cautioned the Department of State Services against threatening to arrest prominent activist, Omoyele Sowore.
Okai stated that arresting Sowore would be an attempt to suppress the voices of suffering Nigerians, whose voices are amplified through Sowore’s advocacy, according to Daily Post.
He noted that millions of Nigerians stand in solidarity with Sowore, whose voice is needed now more than ever, and urged the DSS to desist from intimidating him.
Okai criticized the government’s economic team for being “on a break” while the Central Bank of Nigeria tackles the country’s economic woes alone.
He warned that arresting Sowore would exacerbate the situation and emphasized that suppressing opposing voices is no longer effective.
Okai urged the Tinubu government to reflect on its actions through Sowore’s activities, which he believes are telling the government the necessary truth.
He noted that the DSS should recognize that “arrests will no longer intimidate suffering Nigerians, whose voices are amplified through Sowore’s advocacy.”
He cautioned that “arresting Sowore would be a misguided attempt to silence the voices of suffering Nigerians, who will continue to demand accountability from their government.”
