The Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees has expressed optimism about the chances of the party’s Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to win his petitions in the February 25 election, at the Supreme Court.
This was disclosed by the PDP BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, while reading the communique issued at the end of the board’s 75th meeting in Abuja, on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
It would be recalled that Atiku who filed petitions, seeking to nullify Tinubu’s election at the Tribunal, got his petitions set aside while Tinubu’s victory at the election was upheld by the tribunal.
However, the PDP candidate had since rejected the PEPT judgement and opted to get justice at the Supreme Court.
Reacting to the development during the meeting, Wabara said: “The BoT restates its rejection of the judgment of the PEPC in upholding the declaration of the APC as winner of the Feb. 25, Presidential election, despite the evidence pointing to the contrary.
“The BoT is resolved to take urgent steps to resist the current manifest desperation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.”
He however stated that the BoT was confident in the capacity and courage of the Supreme Court to finally and decisively rise to its responsibility by correcting the alleged manifest errors contained in the PEPT judgment.
Wabara also applauded former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for following due process in his quest to retrieve the presidential mandate.
The BoT Chairman also expressed concerns over the level of hardship, insecurity and general sense of anxiety across the country, occasioned by the implementation of policies of the APC administration.
“The BoT is seriously worried over the continued fall in the value of the naira arising from the ill-implemented policies of the APC with attendant devastating negative effect on the economy resulting in agonizing high costs and unbearable pressure on families,” he said.
Expressing worry over the current situation in the country, the Senator claimed that Nigerians are looking up to the PDP for a solution, and a way out of the county’s predicament.
“The BoT assures Nigerians that despite the challenges, the PDP remains united, stronger and more determined to continue to lead the charge to rescue our democracy and return our nation to the path of credible elections, rule of law, national cohesion and economic prosperity,“ he added.
