Voters in Bauchi State are heading to the polls today, Saturday , August 17, to elect their local representatives.
However, the Local Government council elections, which were originally scheduled to start at 8 a.m., experienced delays in some polling units due to the late arrival of election materials.
At the Dan Iya Registration Area in Bauchi Local Government Area, which has 117 polling units, the distribution of electoral materials did not begin until 10 a.m. and continued until around 11 a.m.
According to reports from Channels Television, Ad-hoc staff from the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission were present at their registration areas as early as 7 a.m. However, they were heard complaining about a lack of transportation to their respective polling units.
In response to the elections, the police have imposed restrictions on vehicular movement for non-essential workers from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
They have also deployed adequate security to over 5,000 polling units across the state.
