The lawmaker representing Bayelsa Central, Senator Benson Konbowei, has been cleared of certificate forgery charges by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo.
The senator was arraigned on a three-count charge, including allegedly forging a National Youth Service Corps exemption certificate.
However, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, withdrew the prosecution fiat, leading to the discontinuation of the case.
Consequently, the prosecuting lawyer, Reuben Egwuaba, applied to withdraw the charge, which was not opposed by the defense team led by Chris Uche, SAN, according to Daily Post.
Justice Christopher Oba struck out the charge, but declined to dismiss it as requested by the defense.
With this development, Senator Konbowei has been cleared of all charges, bringing an end to the legal proceedings against him.
