The Austin Agada-led All Progressives Congress in Benue State has nominated 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship candidates for the upcoming Local Government election scheduled for October 5.
Despite the National Working Committee naming a caretaker committee for the state chapter, the Agada group, relying on a court order, conducted the primary election in all wards across the 23 local government areas on Saturday, August 24, 2024.
A statement from the APC state chairman’s media office said the primary election was conducted through consensus/affirmations in most Local Governments and council wards.
Hon. Samuel Atsuku, who participated in the primary election in Tarka Local Government, attributed the success to the commitment of stakeholders. “I thank the people, particularly the party faithful, for conducting themselves and the exercise peacefully.” Atsuku congratulated the chairmanship candidate, Hon. Koryave Isaac Aondaver, and all councillorship candidates.
In Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Hon. Simon Aluor said, “APC has shown a good example of orderliness and peace.” He thanked the party faithful for their trust.
In Gboko, Hon. Basil Yina emerged as the party flag bearer. In Otukpo, the party faithful voted in affirmation of their preferred Chairmanship aspirant, Oleho Augustine.
The APC Party Chairman of Guma Local Government, Hon. Lazarus Asema, described the process as peaceful and lauded the leadership for effective leadership and proper organization.
Hon. Abua Yaji and Hon. Fidelis Audu expressed satisfaction with the process and commended stakeholders for the successful primary election.
The nominated chairmanship candidates include Hon. Elias Arugwu Ogbu for Ado, Hon. Egnr Tarkaa Solomon N for Konshisha, Hon. Chia Bernard Terna for Vandeikya, Barr. Atom Phillip for Kwande, Hon. Andrew Ocheme for Ogbadibo, Hon. Ogbole Mathew Ebere for Obi, Barr. Napoleon Otache for Agatu, Hon. Elias Arugwu Ogbu for Ado, Hon. Eje John Elvis for Apa, Hon. Washima Tersoo Haris for Katsina-Ala;
Others are: Hon. Ajeh Godwin Ogah for Ohimini, Hon. Akombo Stephen for Logo, Hon. Terver Agwaza for Ukum, Hon. Benjamin Atoza for Gwer, Hon. Denise China for Gwer-west, Hon. Vincent Zaatsa Apera for Guma, Hon. James Gbamwuan Agudu for Buruku, Hon. Tyopaase Benjamin for Ushongo, Mrs. Ene Ameh JP for Okpokwu, Hon. Jonathan Shimgbe for Makurdi, and Hon. Jackson Udama for Oju.
