United States President Joe Biden has issued an apology to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the extended delay in Washington’s approval of a significant military aid package for Ukraine.
This occurred during a meeting between the two leaders in Paris.
During their discussion, Biden expressed regret over the months-long hold-up in the $61 billion aid package, which Congress eventually approved in late April. He attributed the delay to resistance from “some of our very conservative” members of Congress.
“I’m not gonna walk away from you,” Biden reassured Zelensky during a brief public exchange in front of reporters.
The meeting between Biden and Zelensky took place in the context of broader commemorations. On Thursday, both leaders participated in events marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the historic Allied landings in Normandy during World War II.
Additionally, on Friday morning, Zelensky addressed the French parliament. Later that day, Biden is scheduled to deliver a speech in Normandy focusing on themes of democracy and freedom.
