Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has appointed Mr. Usman Aliyu as the Director-General of the Agency for the Great Green Wall, a vital project aimed at combating desertification in the Sahel region and preventing the expansion of the Sahara desert.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media, Abdurrahman Bundi, announced the appointment. Governor Zulum expressed high expectations for Aliyu’s tenure.
Zulum said, “I expect the highest level of commitment and dedication in his new role.”
Usman Aliyu brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to his new position. He holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Maiduguri (2007) and a master’s degree in Environmental Management (2015).
Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Environmental Management at the same university. Aliyu’s career spans various roles in both the private and public sectors, including coordinator positions at the Federal Ministry of Mineral Resources and Geological Survey in Kano, Borno State Green Hub Africa, and the Kano State Ministry of Environment.
The Great Green Wall initiative is a crucial African Union project aimed at addressing environmental degradation and promoting sustainable development in the Sahel region. With Aliyu’s expertise and leadership, the agency is poised to make significant strides in achieving its objectives.
