The lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia in the National Assembly, Obi Aguocha, visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, seeking his intervention for a political resolution to release IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
Aguocha apologized for any offensive statements made by Kanu and emphasized the need for understanding and unity.
According to Aguocha, Buhari welcomed his approach and promised not to oppose a political solution for Kanu’s release, according to Daily Post.
This meeting is part of a broader initiative to secure a speedy political resolution and Kanu’s subsequent release through dialogue and non-contentious approaches.
Aguocha expressed confidence that with Buhari’s assurance and a letter of appeal signed by 50 House of Representatives members to President Bola Tinubu, Kanu’s release through political resolution is imminent.
This development suggests a potential shift towards a peaceful resolution to the protracted issue.
Aguocha opined that he used the visit to apologise for any missteps and utterances of his constituent, Nnamdi Kanu and harped on the need to promote understanding and unity.
“Former President Buhari welcomed my approach and assured me that he would not oppose a political solution for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s release.
“This meeting is part of a broader initiative to secure a speedy political resolution and Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s subsequent release, in the spirit of dialogue and non-contentious approaches to resolving national issues”, Aguocha said.
