The Lagos State Police Command has announced the imposition of restrictions on movement for the Saturday rerun election in Surulere Federal Constituency I.
This was earlier disclosed in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Adejobi in the statement via the Force X handle, noted that the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had restricted vehicular movement from 12:01 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, in 26 states holding run-off and bye-elections.
The statement further noted that essential services such as those by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s officials, accredited electoral observers, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, and media personnel were exempted from the restriction.
The statement further explained that Egbetokun also banned security aides of important personalities from accompanying them to polling booths, while also prohibited state-owned security outfits from election security management.
However, in a statement issued by its Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin on his official “X” handle on Friday, Lagos State Police Command gave further clarification that there is no restriction of movement in other parts of the state where INEC did not schedule an election to hold.
The statement reads: “CLARIFICATION: In the forthcoming bye-election in Lagos State, restriction of movement is applicable only in the election area, Surulere Federal Constituency I.
“There is no restriction of movement in other parts of the state.”
