Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the political tensions in Rivers State by cautioning the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wabara made the appeal to President Tinubu in response to the recent moves by pro-Wike lawmakers and the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Wabara accused Wike of fueling the conflict between Governor Fubara and the lawmakers, insisting that Nigeria may not withstand any instability in Rivers State, given its significant economic contribution to the country.
The former Senate President appealed to President Tinubu to persuade Wike to promote peace and allow his successor to perform his constitutional duties without undue influence.
Recall that the APC Chairman in Rivers, Tony Okocha, had called on lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, a move supported by 21 Local Government Chairmen in the state, according to Vanguard.
Wabara’s appeal to President Tinubu seeks to prevent a needless political crisis in Rivers State.
“I want to appeal to Mr President to call his appointee, Nyesom Wike to order so that his actions in Rivers do not confirm the suspicion that APC has an agenda to turn Nigeria into one party state. Wike should allow peace to reign in Rivers State.
“Mr President should appreciate the importance of Rivers as a major revenue base of the country, and should the trouble they are stoking erupt, Nigeria will definitely not escape the aftermath,” he said.
