A three-judge panel of the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt is set to deliver a ruling on Friday in a case challenging the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The case, filed by Martin Amaewhule on behalf of 26 others, seeks to overturn a previous ruling by the Rivers State High Court in favour of Victor Oko-Jumbo, the current Speaker of the House, according to Daily Post.
The lower court’s decision had restrained Amaewhule and the other lawmakers from performing legislative functions and vacated their seats.
An interlocutory injunction was also granted against them.
Today’s ruling will determine the validity of the laws and bills passed by Amaewhule and the other lawmakers, who are loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike.
A favorable ruling will pave the way for their return to the Assembly.
