The All Progressives Congress in Delta State has called on the state government to ensure credible local government elections next month.
Party chieftain, Chief Ayirimi Emami, and stakeholders made the appeal while distributing campaign materials in Warri South Local Government Area.
Emami assured that the party would win in Warri South, Warri South West, and Warri North if the elections were transparent.
He charged party members to embark on aggressive campaigns, warning against potential rigging by the state government.
The Chairman of the party in Warri South, Mr. Mario Owumi, appealed for a level playing field, noting that the APC won in the local government in the last House of Assembly and senatorial elections.
The chairmanship candidate, Prince Francis Yonwuren, expressed optimism about the party’s chances and promised transparent governance if elected.
The APC is seeking a free and fair election, urging the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission to conduct a transparent exercise, according to ThisDay.
The party warns that any attempt to manipulate the elections would be resisted.
Emami further charged members of the party to embark on aggressive campaigns ahead of the July election.
“All our candidates in Warri (Warri South, Warri South West and Warri North) must go out to campaign. The fear is that the state government may want to write results. This is why we are yearning for local government autonomy. Everything must go well,” he said.
“We want a free election. The governor should give a level playing field. We all saw the results in the last election in the House of Assembly and the Senate, the APC won. Our candidate is the best person for the job,” he said.
