The Delta State Government has considered and approved N936 billion budget proposal for 2025 subject to the House of Assembly ratification.
State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sunny Ekedayen, announced this during a press briefing on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting, which was chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Ekedayen, alongside State Commissioner for Information Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Mr. Charles Aniagwu, and Commissioner for Directorate of Riverine Infrastructural Development Chief Ebikeme Clark, explained that the budget proposal would soon be sent to the State House of Assembly for consideration.
Detailing the breakdown, Ekedayen stated, “The principal makeup is: recurrent, N348,717,758,635, representing 37.25 percent of the budget; capital expenditure, N587,361,060,084, representing 62.75 percent of the budget.”
He noted that the 2025 proposal is 29.12 percent higher than the 2024 budget.
“Emphasis, as always, is on the focus areas: agriculture, micro, small, and medium enterprises, youth and tourism, entertainment, social safety and poverty alleviation, physical infrastructure, and education,” he added.
State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, also addressed the press, warning contractors who have delayed project mobilization.
“Exco advised contractors whose projects have stayed with them for the past one year and who have refused to mobilize to site that such projects will be terminated,” he stated.
“We cannot wait for any contractor to mobilize to site as it pleases them. There is zero tolerance for such delays. Every project has the advantage of this dry season, and every serious contractor should mobilize to site,” Osuoza emphasized.
