The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, has cautioned Senator Ali Ndume to embrace the principles of teamwork and collaboration, following his removal as Majority Whip of the Senate. Agbese stated that this was a standard parliamentary practice worldwide.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, Agbese, when asked for his reaction to Ndume’s removal as Majority Whip of the Senate, stated that it was a standard parliamentary practice worldwide.
He urged Ndume to put Nigeria first, rather than seeking to divide and distract the government.
Agbese said, “Some persons don’t understand that the parliament and the executive are two parallel lines of necessity. Senator Ndume should take note of this and embrace the principles of teamwork and collaboration, rather than seeking to divide and distract the government from its laudable reforms.
“He should put Nigeria first, rather than seeking to divide and distract the government.
“Let us work together to address the challenges facing our country. We will not be distracted by individual interests or personal agendas.”
He further highlighted the dedication of the 10th National Assembly to the nation’s growth and development, citing their decision to cut their salaries by 50% as a show of solidarity with Nigerians.
Agbese described the salary cut as a ‘patriotic move’ and commended the lawmakers for their willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good.
He assured Nigerians that the House of Representatives is working with the highest level of maturity, thanks to the Speaker’s pro-Nigeria leadership posture.
He said, “Mr. President feels the pains of our constituents as if they all live in the house with him. The 10th National Assembly has demonstrated a high level of maturity and patriotism in their legislative duties.
“We are committed to learning from the mistakes of the past and charting a new course for our nation’s growth and development.”
